Balance, by Rebecca Jayde

I mean, it’s no wonder teens are depressed,
Confused, stuck siding between
Convienience foods and
Photographs of tiny girls in bikinis
Accompanied by muscular boy toys with perfect hair
Health warnings
and
"Big Is Beautiful"
Balance is beautiful but
Where does balance lie but
In a trash heap of
Trampled pamphlets and
Loud mouthed protesters
Balance
Has gone running
Loosing footing in crowds of
Insecure girls with size 12 waists and
boys who can’t lift 25lb weights
Wait.
Crisis lines clogged like
McDonald’s Exec’s arteries
By people with pimples
face to face with a
Glass plated menace hiding
In silver; A skewed twin
Staring back with
Disappointed fueled by everything from
Childish insults
To
"Kill yourself, Fatty"s.
Wrongful self-images fed to us
Like air through narrow tubes
Narrow minded
Narrow sights of
"Ideal" Bodies and Lives decided by
Sweaty men in suits trapped in
Over crowded board rooms creating
Wide spread discomfort in
One custom made sheet of skin,
Cut to fit one size fits all.
